TEAM DYNAMO FLY THROUGH STAFF TRAINING
& DEVELOPMENT

The last few months have seen many Dynamo members excel in staff training courses and development.
On 26th May 2013, Laura Edwards and Kelly Simm, both members of the Great Britain Performance Squad, gained their Level 1 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Assistant Coach Award. They completed their training last Summer at Lilleshall National Training Centre and then returned to Dynamo to coach alongside their mentor, Kerri Upton, who recently gained her High Performance Coach Award. Laura and Kelly juggled their full-time training programmes to arrange practice coaching sessions in preparation for their assessment. Our resident British Gymnastics Assessor, Charlene Bates, observed Kelly and Laura individually coaching a session of set skills with three gymnasts from our Development Class. Both girls passed their assessment with flying colours demonstrating excellent technical knowledge, good communication skills and a passion for gymnastics that motivates our young gymnasts - Well Done Girls!

Our Development Officer, Charlene Bates, organised a training month in June for our staff. It started on 10th June with in-house training for our Gymnastics For All Coaches. Coaches were taken through Health & Safety Procedures and shared their thoughts about how to make the sessions more child-centred. Coaches finished buzzing and with new ideas, keen to try them out in their next session! On 17th June, thirteen Dynamo coaches from across all of our sessions attended the Safeguarding and Protecting Children course run by Sports Coach UK. This course is renewed every three years and keeps all our staff up to date with current welfare issues and child protection policies. Lastly on 23rd June we had fourteen coaches complete Emergency First Aid at Work training that included an Epipen module, Defibrillator training, CPR and general First Aid. We were fortunate enough to be granted Sport Hampshire and IOW funding towards this course. Thanks to Brett Bader for delivering such a fantastic course! What do you think of our bandaging skills now?!

Finally our Senior Women’s coach, Kerri Upton recently received her theory results for her recent Level 5 examination. During May she successfully completed her practical assessment at Lilleshall National Sports Centre showing technical knowledge and competence in her coaching at the highest level.
Needless to say her Level 5 qualification was complete when she received her theory results, passing both the Common Core and Sports Specific paper. Congratulations Kerri and good luck in your coaching for the future.
