Dynamo Boys enjoy medal success in London Open

Dynamo’s Men’s Artistic Squad recently travelled to the Europa Centre in Dartford for the prestigious London Open. An annual National entry competition, which has been open to clubs for over 100 years.

Dynamo has regularly entered this competition at all levels. The popular Development open which now hosts 250 + competitors, competing the Club Development Grades program and also the main event itself, including the Senior Westminster Cup, U18 Loveday Trophy and the U14 Clayton Bolt Shield – won by Dynamo gymnast Charlie Howard in 2011.

This year was no exception with 17 of their gymnasts taking over the 3 day event.

The first day of competition introduced the Elite Grades program into the event. Dynamo’s Lyle Harry (9) competed in the Level 2 competition where he gain valuable experience in his new grades routines which he hopes to perform at the National Finals later this year. Despite a few mistakes Lyle finished a credible 11th place overall and now looks forward to his qualification competition for a National finals place.

Day 2 saw the main event of the weekend. The London Open. Kicking of the day was Dynamo’s Daniel Lee in the Loveday Trophy. With a huge array of British talent on show Daniel performed brand new routines with confidence to finish 13th respectively, in an age group ranging from 1998 – 1995 born gymnasts. Daniel being one of the young 1998’s.
This competition completes Daniel’s debut year as a Dynamo gymnast which has seen him begin to develop higher level skills but just as importantly improved consistency and his general style and presentation of his gymnastics.
He looks to continue improving his difficulty for the remainder of 2013 with the English Championships, British Championships and the possibility of competing in the US just over the horizon for early 2014.

The final day of the event saw the majority of the clubs gymnasts taking part in the London Development Open competition. This event gives the gymnasts chance to put their grades routines out into competition for the first time as they prepare for qualification and hopefully places in the regional teams at the end of the year.
In Level 1 Owen Sims, Finley Hughes, Tom George and Wesley Wong finished 6th, 15th, 21st and 30th respectively whilst Connor Sullivan finished 33rd in Under 8 Level 1 and Taine Pitter took the Silver medal in the Out of age category.
Level 2 saw Henry Baynes step up a level from 2012 as he competed In Age for the first time finishing a credible 39th.
Davey Martinson and Connor Williams enjoyed success in the Out of Age section of Level 2 finishing 1st and 2nd in the All around competition.
Level 3 Keaton Spry finished a solid 8th place which included strong performances on Pommel (4th) and Vault (2nd)
The finals round saw Dynamo’s Level 4’s compete. Despite some minor mistakes the group competed confidently to finish all inside the top 10 rankings.
James Leaver crowned his Dynamo debut by winning Gold in the All around competition as well as 1st on Rings & Parallel Bars. Teammates Jack Helps, Harry Hayes, Louis Brunnen and Joseph Devine finished 3rd, 7th, 8th & 10th respectively.

“This was a great preparation competition for all Dynamo gymnasts who now focus on gaining selection for Regional Teams at the end of the month.
We look forward to following up these successes at the South Region Qualifier in Basingstoke”.
