Very successful weekend at the Regional Championships

The Women’s Artistic girls squad at Dynamo School of Gymnastics, based at Hamble Community Sports College, were back in action this weekend at the Southern Region Levels Championships, being held a the Rivermead Leisure Centre, Reading.

With representation at every Level, it was a busy weekend for Dynamo’s gymnasts and coaches.

Lila North placed 18th overall in the Level 5, 8 year old age group, with team-mate Victoria Baynes close behind in 21st. In the 9/10 year old age group, Isabelle Prinsep put in a strong performance to place 9th overall adding a Gold on bars and Silver on floor, with Olivia Simkin finishing 14th.

In the Level 4, 9 year old age group, Amelie Goosey performed well to finish 10th with a score of 43.30 with team-mate Amelie Priestman close behind in 13th with 43.10. In the 10/11 year old age group, Lucie Russel had a clean competition to finish 9th overall, with Holly Shepherd in 13th, also gaining the Bronze medal on Beam for her solid routine. Team-mate Saffron Moore finished in 19th. In the 12/13 year old age group, Libby Foster performed 4 clean routines to finish in 3rd overall adding a Silver medal on bars.

Level 3, was the turn of 10 year old Sydney Letchford. Sydney scored a total of 44.65 to finish in 5th place and gain a place on the Southern Region Team for National Finals later in the year. Sydney also gained the Gold on Vault for her fantastic Tsukahara preparation, and the Bronze on Bars. In the Level 3, 13/14 year old age group, India-Rose Harper finished in 8th place.

Dynamo had 4 girls competing in the Level 2, 11 year old age group, with Leah Mitchell finishing in 4th place with a score of 43.90. Leah also became the Level 2 Vault champion for her Tsukahara, and gained the silver medal on bars. Olivia Essex finished in 6th place competing 4 clean routines. Tayah Askham was close behind in 7th place, adding the Silver on Beam, with Ella Beattie- Edwards finishing in 8th place despite a fall on bars which would have put her well in the chase for medals. In the 12/13 year old age group, Ellen Martin finished in 5th place with the Bronze medal on bars, and Jessica Wells finished in 7th with the Bronze medal on Vault.

Amy Layzell competed in the Challenge Espoir age group, finishing 4th overall with 40.60. Amy added Bronze on both Vault and Floor for 2 solid routines.

3 girls competed in the Challenge Junior category, with Chloe Brebner scoring a personal best of 42.55 to finish 5th overall, with the Bronze on Beam, and gold on floor after competed her double back somersault cleanly. Madison Wright returned to competition form to finish 7th, with Danielle Barnes in 8th.

A fantastic weekend of competition for the Dynamo girls, who between them picked up 14 Regional Medals. The girls will now begin preparation for team competitions later in the year.

Head Coach Debbie Richardson said of the results, “Dynamo’s Women’s Artistic section has just undergone a review, the results of which are now starting to pay dividends. The future for the girls looks good".
