London Open & London Development Open

Dynamo’s Men Squad competed in the London Open held at the Europa Centre in Dartford.

The first day saw Lyle Harry compete in the Elite Grade Level 3 competition where he achieved 12th All around with a score of 63.30. This was good preparation leading up to the Regional selection event for Elite Grade gymnasts.
The following day saw the turn of the main event: The London Open, a competition that has been running for well over 100 years now. In the Under 16 competition, Dynamo had representation from Daniel Lee, Dynamo's debutant Sam Budden and, back from retirement, Charlie Howard.
An exciting competition saw Daniel battle a slight illness to finish 11th All around (70.00) and Sam completed a clean competition in his first for the club, finishing 16th All around (69.60). Charlie competed on 4 out of the 6 apparatus on his return to the field. Four excellent routines saw Charlie finish 4th on Rings, 3rd on Pommel and 2nd place on both Parallel Bars and High Bar. An exceptional result after being out of the sport for almost a year.

Sunday was the London Development competition with many gymnasts from Dynamo competing their club grade routines in preparation for the regional qualifier later in September.

Under 8 Level 1’s Sam Mould and Joe Wilson enjoyed their first taste of a big competition, finishing 9th and 26th respectively.

Level 1’s, Connor Sullivan, Isaac Beattie-Edwards (20th), Ben Fyvie-Rae (23rd) & Joe Guenier (46th) with Connor taking the all around Bronze medal in this age group.

Level 2, Dynamo had representation from Samuel Wilson (47th), Finley Hughes (45th), Tom George (45th) & Wesley Wong (47th & Gold on Vault).

Taine Pitter and Henry Baynes competed for Dynamo in the Level 3 competition, finishing 26th and 27th respectively.

In Level 4, Keaton Spry had a brilliant competition to finish 6th All around including Gold on the Vault with a 9.90. Another Dynamo debutant, Kurtis Stanley, also produced a near perfect competition scoring 56.55 from a possible 60 points to take the overall Gold medal.

Finally in Level 5, Jack Helps, James Leaver, Joseph Devine, Harry Hayes and Louis Brunnen all competed well to finish 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th & 10th.

Most of these boys will now compete for their place on the Regional team that will go forward to the national finals in November.

Following their success at the London Open & London Development Open the previous weekend, the boys squad were once again in action this past weekend in Basingstoke for the Regional Grades Qualifier. This competition is used to select the regional teams that go forward to this year's National finals held in November.

In Under 8 Level 1, Sam Mould, Joe Wilson and Samuel Owen competed well and gained valuable experience for the coming years. They placed 5th, 6th and 13th place all around.

Team mate Keaton Spry improved his performance from the previous competition to take all around 3rd place. Davey Martinson showed signs of huge improvement and finished in 7th place.

Dynamo’s Level 5 entrants were Joseph Devine, Jack Helps, James Leaver, Harry Hayes and Louis Brunnen.
