2015 Gymstars Open

Last weekend, Team Dynamo travelled to Rushmoor Gymnastics Academy for the 2015 Gymstars Open.

Day 1 of the competition saw the Level 4 OOA girls compete. Madeleine Pople had a clean competition to finish in 27th with a score of 42.45. Team mate Lila North, competed her longswings on Bars for the first time but took an unfortunate fall on Beam on her mount to finish with a score of 42.075 in 28th place.

Dynamo had girls in every round on Day 2 of the competition.
In Round 1, Anabel Edem competed in the Level 4 In Age competition, finishing in 13th place with a score of 38.725. Amelie Priestman competed at Level 2 In Age, finishing with 41.925 in 4th place. Amelie also finished 2nd on Vault and Beam, with 4th place on Bars and Floor. In the Level 2 OOA 12/13 years category, Tiger Weidner finished in 7th place with 38.525, with 5th place on floor. Tiger also picked up a spot prize for her bravery on Beam after taking a nasty fall. Ellen Martin competed in the Level 2 OOA 14+ years category, scoring 38.575 for a 7th place finish. Ellen also finished 6th on Beam.

Round 2, was the turn of the Espoir girls. Leah Mitchell managed to pick up after a rocky start on Bars, to finish 11th overall with a score of 42.40. Leah took 1st place on Floor for a fantastic routine which also earned her a spot prize for her Artistry. Leah also finished in 5th place on Beam. Team mate Olivia Essex finished in 14th with an overall score of 40.90 after a good competition. Tayah Askham had a great start on Bars, but counted some falls on Beam & Floor to finish in 15th place with a score of 40.725. Sydney Letchford finished close behind in 16th place with an overall score of 39.15. Ella Beattie-Edwards finished in 19th with a score of 33.575. Isabelle Prinsep also competed in Round 2 in the Level 3 OOA 11/12 years competition. Isabelle finished with an overall score of 41.825 to finish in 20th after competing a somersault Vault for the first time.

In Round 3, Katie Davis took part in the Level 3 OOA 13+ years category, finishing in 14th with an overall score of 40.825. In the Junior competition, Casey Spry finished 10th overall with a personal best overall score of 43.125. Team mate, Jessica Wells finished in 12th with 41.00, having competed her double back for the first time. Amy Layzell finished in 13th with an overall score of 39.00 and also picked up 6th place on Vault. In the Senior competition, Danielle Barnes finished 3rd overall with a score of 40.975. Danielle placed 4th on Vault and Bars, 2nd on Beam, and 3rd on Floor.

A fantastic weekend for the Dynamo Girls, having representation across many of the age groups. The Espoir, Junior and Senior girls will now go on to compete in the Regional Teams competition next month and the British Challenge Cup in July.

Women’s Artistic Coach Kerri Upton said of the girls performance “It was a great competition to try out lots of new skills in preparation for upcoming competitions, a positive start to the new season".
