Gimnasia Artistica Pozuelo International Competition, Madrid

Dynamo’s Senior Team travelled to Madrid for 4 days, for the Gimnasia Artistica Pozuelo International Competition. The girls travelled along with coaches, Kerri Upton and Emma Beales.

After an early start on Friday morning, the girls settled into the surroundings, conditioning and stretching out in the park opposite the hotel before collecting the accreditations needed from the competition.

Saturday was competition day, with Sydney Letchford and Isabelle Prinsep competing in the youngsters round. After a wobbly start on beam the girls picked up and both put out strong Vaults and Bar routines. Sydney Letchford finished with a score of 46.60 for 21st position overall and a 5th place on Vault with 12.80. Team mate Isabelle Prinsep finished with 44.65 in 26th position.

The Juniors were up next, with Tiger Weidner and Ellen Martin competing in the Junior B Division.
Tiger finished in 7th all around with 45.1, taking the Gold on Vault with 12.0 and Silver on Floor with 12.4 and 6th on Beam. Team mate Ellen Martin was close behind with 44.8 in 8th position placing 4th on both Beam and Floor.

In the FIG Junior A Division, Jessica Wells had a clean competition to finish in 7th overall with 44.3, also placing 7th on Floor with 11.30 and 8th on Vault with 12.90.  Leah Mitchell finished in 11th position with an overall score of 41.05, placing 5th on Vault with 13.00 for her Straight Yurchenko and 10th on Bars with 9.0. Ella Beattie-Edwards was 14th with 39.85, followed by Tayah Askham in 16th with 39.50. Tayah also placed 7th on Beam with 11.55. Amy Layzell finished with 38.60 in 17th, placing 9th on Beam with 11.20. Olivia Essex was 18th, with 38.45 competing new skills on most apparatus.

In the Senior competition, Danielle Barnes finished in 5th position overall with a score of 44.70. Placing 4th on both Beam (11.20) and Floor (11.75).  Danielle also placed 7th on Vault and 6th on Bars.

A fantastic competition for all the girls and a valuable experience in competing new skills among an international field of gymnasts. A special mention to Katie Davis who unfortunately was unable to compete due to having knee surgery. Katie still travelled to Madrid to support the team, and make the most of the experience.

After the competition the girls enjoyed a day sightseeing around Madrid on Sunday, before heading to a pool to cool off in the 35 degree heat.

The girls will now continue training towards their Levels and Challenge Cup competitions, after an enjoyable and successful trip.
