British Challenge Cup

Last weekend, the Dynamo Girls travelled to The Guildford Spectrum, along with their coaches Kerri Upton & Emma Beales for the British Challenge Cup.

In the Junior competition, Dynamo had representation from 4 girls. Tayah Askham finished in 45th position with an overall score of 40.80. Starting on bars with an unfortunate fall on her forwards longswing Tayah stayed strong sticking her dismount landing. Onto beam, despite a couple of mistakes again Tayah finished the routine strongly. Tayah finished the competition with a fantastic floor routine including a double pike somersault and a massive Pike Tsukahara on Vault. Team mate Jessica Wells was close behind in 47th with an overall score of 40.60. Jessica had an unfortunate fall on bars on her Shoot 1/2 but like her team-mate continued strongly. After counting just 1 fall on beam, again Jess finished well on Floor competing 2 double backs and going for her Straight Tsukahara on Vault. Leah Mitchell finished in 50th position with a score of 39.80. Leah did a great job competing her full difficulty despite an injury to her foot. Leah competed her new bars routine, and after taking a couple of falls on beam, came back with a strong floor routine including two double back somersaults and finished her competition with a Straight Yurchenko on Vault. Olivia Essex finished in 62nd with 37.15. Starting the competition off with a clean bars routine, Olivia unfortunately took some falls on beam. Moving to floor Olivia competed her double back for the very first time, and finished on Vault with a Straight Tsukhara.

In the Senior competition, Danielle Barnes finished in 18th position with an overall score of 42.25. Starting her competition on Vault with a steady Straight Tsukahara, Danielle then moved onto bars with a high difficulty routine, Danielle scored 10.00 to finish in 6th position. Moving to beam, Danielle took some unfortunate falls but finished strongly on floor fall despite an error with a score of 11.10.

Day 2 of the competition was the turn of our Espoir gymnasts. Unfortunately, Sydney Letchford was forced to withdraw due to injury. Isabelle Prinsep, in her first ever Challenge Cup finished in 66th position with an overall score of 37.60. Isabelle started on floor with a new routine competed cleanly. Moving onto Vault, competing a Yurchenko entry with good execution, Isabelle then competed her bars routine with her double back dismount to her feet. Finishing on Beam, taking just 1 fall on her new Free Cartwheel. A great competition for Isabelle holding her own in her first individual voluntary national competition.

Women¹s Artistic Coach, Kerri Upton, said of the girls performance, "We are proud to have so many girls competing at the National Level. The girls showed their confidence throughout the competition and we look forward to the rest of the competition season ahead."
