English Championships

Dynamo School of Gymnastics travelled to Loughborough University Campus for this year’s English Championships being held in the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall. With the competition spanning across 3 days with both Women’s & Men’s Artistic gymnasts competing across various age groups.

Day 1 of competition was the turn of Espoir gymnast Elise Blissett, competing for the first time in the English Championships. Starting her competition on Beam, Elise took 2 falls but soon settled in on floor competing a clean routine before heading to Vault where she took an unfortunate fall on her Tsukahara. Finishing her competition on Bars, Elise hit her handstands to help her execution score, placing 55th overall.

Day 2 was the turn of our Senior gymnasts, Danielle Barnes & Jessica Wells. The girls also started their competition on Beam with Danielle Barnes putting in a score of 10.20. Danielle then unfortunately injured her foot on take off during warm up on Floor and was unable to continue the competition. Team mate Jessica Wells did well to continue after seeing her team mate sustain an injury. Jessica, in her first year as a Senior, took a few unfortunate falls but competed her new Vaults and a new connection in her floor routine. Jessica finished with an overall score of 39.90 to place 35th overall.

Day 3 of competition saw both the Dynamo Under 14 boys and Junior Girls compete. In the Junior Girls competition Tayah Askham competed new skills on Beam & Floor, scoring well despite counting 2 falls across the 4 apparatus. Tayah had a confident competition finishing with an all around score of 43.15 in 32nd place. Team mate Olivia Essex also looked confident throughout, competing new skills on both Beam & Floor. Olivia finished with an all around score of 41.80, in 38th place. Isabelle Prinsep competed for the first time in the English Championships putting out new skills on all apparatus, showing huge improvement. Isabelle finished in 43rd position with an overall score of 38.00. Ella Beattie-Edwards also had a good competition, finishing with a total score of 37.10 in 44th position. Ella took a couple of unfortunate falls on her first apparatus, Beam, but came back strong to finish the competition without any further mistakes. Team mate Sydney Letchford unfortunately took a fall during floor warm up and was unable to finish the competition, after warming up all of her skills successfully.
Dynamo also had representation from Samuel Wilson in the Under 14 competition. This was his first year competing voluntary skills in a routine. Sam did a fantastic job in the Under 14 category who finished 37th with a total score of 56.10. Sam landing a new vault scoring 11.15 gave Sam the boost he wanted for the remainder of the competition. It was Sam’s first year competing in this age group; he had managed to upgrade all of his routines with two new skills on each apparatus including a Magyar on Pommel Horse and a new Clear Circle to Handstand on the Men’s Horizontal Bar giving him a score of 9.650. Team mate Finley Hughes unfortunately pulled out after warm up after rolling an ankle, but had worked hard to prepare his routines for the competition.

A successful weekend for Team Dynamo who will now continue to push on and increase Start Values and execution ahead of future competitions.
