Basingstoke Healthy Living Competition

Dynamo School of Gymnastics travelled to Basingstoke Gymnastics Club at The Active Life Centre for the Healthy Living Competition. The competition served as a friendly preparation competition for upcoming events, and with a massive medal haul for the club it stands our Women’s Artistic Squad in a strong position for the upcoming season. 45 girls travelled to Basingstoke along with coaches Kerri Beaven, Emma Beales, Zoe Gilling, Sarah Sharkey, Chloe Brebner, Lucie Russell, and Casey Spry.

In Round 1 of Competition, Our Level 5 Senior Girls competed with Lillian Smith finishing in 6th position overall with a total score of 37.55. Lillian also picked up 4th place on Vault. Team mate Ella Read-Jones was close behind in 7th position with a score of 37.40 picking up 5th place on both Beam & Floor. Rebecca Maxted finished 10th overall with 36.60, picking up the Bronze medal on Vault, Silver on Floor and 6th place on Bars. Saffira Barkley finished in 12th position with 34.30 and Yasmin Le Bas in 13th with 33.45.

Also competing in the first round of competition, Izzy Frost finished in 5th place overall in the Level 4 Junior competition with a total score of 39.55. Izzy finished 2nd on Bars and 4th on Vault with her team mate Alexandra Peattie picking up 3rd place on Bars and 4th on floor for 8th place overall with 37.70.

Next up Dynamo’s Level 5 Junior Girls, Maya Smith finished in 10th overall with a score of 39.65, picking up 6th place on Beam. Ella Crooke finished in 12th position with a score of 38.20, placing 6th on Vault and 4th on Floor. Layla Mears finished in 14th with 37.55 with Esther Draper in 15th with 36.00. Maci Harbut 19th, Esmee Lewis 20th and Kaitlin Welch 21st all competed on 3 apparatus

In their first year of competition, Dynamo’s 7-year-old girls competed in the Pre Level 5 competition, with Maci Poulton winning the competition with a total score of 42.40. Maci also gained the Silver medal on both Beam and Floor and placed 4th on Vault. In 3rd place overall Hadeya Nazari scored 39.90 with 3rd place on Floor. Close behind Matilda Symonds finished 4th overall with 39.60, taking the Gold medal on Beam and 6th place on Floor. In 6th position Ligaya Labourne scored 38.90 placing 4th on Floor and 5th on Bars. Competing on 3 apparatus Thea Shirley took 1st place on Bars and 4th on Beam. Jessica Ley placed 2nd on Vault, Willow Williams placed 5th on Beam, Emily Clark placed 3rd on Vault and joint 2nd on Floor, Lexi Mae-Little placed 6th on Vault with Freya Gharibian placing 3rd on Beam. Mya Balcombe competed 2 apparatus today placing 5th on both Vault and Beam.

In the Level 4 Senior competition, Lacey Williams won the all-around title with a total score of 45.36. Lacey also placed 1st on Vault & Bars, adding Silver on Beam to her collection. Elita Castro-Garrick placed 2nd all around with a total score of 45.00. Elita placed on all apparatus with Silver on Vault and Beam, Bronze on Bars and 6th place on Floor. Charlotte Ingram placed 4th overall with a total score of 43.25, placing 3rd on Bars and 4th on Beam. Saffron Drake placed 7th overall with a total score of 42.60, finishing 2nd on Floor, 5th on Bars and 6th on Vault. Ella Nowell followed in 8th position with 42.05, placing 5th on Vault and Bars. Summer Brooks finished in 11th position with 39.80. placing 6th on both Vault and Bars with Nina Miller in 13th with 39.10 taking 4th on Vault and Floor.

In the Level 2 Junior competition Anabel Edem finished 5th overall with a total score of 41.50. Anabel won Floor with 12.40, placed 5th on Vault and Bars and 6th on Beam. Tallulah Sim finished 6th overall with an all around score of 38.55, placing 6th on both Vault and Bars, taking the Silver on Beam and 5th place on Floor. Lydia Sim in her first competition returning from injury competed 3 apparatus, placing 5th on Beam and 2nd on Floor.

In the Level 2 Senior competition, Victoria Baynes was the sole competitor in this category and after a strong all-around performance was rewarded with Gold’s on all apparatus and all around for a score of 38.10.

Last up was the Dynamo’s Senior Team took to the competition floor, with the girls split across 3 age groups and two categories. Both Molly Symonds and Tayah Askham have previously qualified as Elite gymnasts and were the sole competitors in their age categories. In FIG Elite Espoir, Molly competed on 2 apparatus and was rewarded with Gold on both Bars and Beam with her highest score of 11.50 coming on Beam for a steady performance. Tayah Askham was crowned the FIG Senior Elite champion with an all around score of 43.45, her highest individual score of 11.85 coming on Bars for her new cleanly executed routine which included a difficult ‘E’ value release and catch element.

Bethan Light was crowned the Espoir Challenge champion, with an all around score of 44.55. Bethan medalled on all apparatus winning Gold on Beam with a massive 12.70 for her difficult routine, she then added gold on Bars, Silver on Vault and Bronze on Floor to her medal haul. Team mate Emma Glasspool placed 2nd overall, with 42.65. Emma also medalled on all apparatus adding Gold on Vault for her Straight Yurchenko, and Silver on Bars, Beam and Floor. Rio Gawne-Cain competed 2 apparatus taking Silver on Beam with 11.70 and 4th on Floor. Molly McNaugher competed just Bars today competing her new Pak Salto for a score of 8.40 and 3rd position.

Elise Blissett competed in the Junior Challenge competition, coming in 4th place overall with 42.60. Elise placed 6th on Vault, 4th on both Bars and Beam and took the Silver on Floor for her artistic routine including a well-executed double back somersault.

Emily Burke was crowned the Senior Challenge champion with a high all-around score of 45.00. Emily added Gold on Vault for her massive Yurchenko Straight scoring 12.70 and Gold on Bars catching her new release and catch move successfully. Emily added Silver on both Beam and Floor to her medal haul. Team mate Isabelle Prinsep finished 3rd overall with a total score of 40.65. Isabelle finished with Bronze on Vault, Beam and Floor and added Silver on Bars for her clean routine.

A fantastic day for all of Dynamo’s gymnasts, with 6 overall champions crowned throughout the day. The purpose of the competition completely fulfilled, with the opportunity to try out new elements, consolidate connections and get some valuable competition experience with so many girls being rewarded for their hard work, this will give the girls a massive boost into the upcoming competition season. Head coach Debbie Richardson said of the performance “We’re all extremely proud of all the girls showcasing good gymnastics at all levels across the weekend – showing our depth as a club with girls competing from 7 to 17 years old. We now look forward to the next competition with a massive confidence boost for all the competitors”
