Great Weekend of Competitions

Posted on - Monday 7th October, 2019.

Well done to all the gymnasts that competed over the course of the past two weekends. Lots of fantastic results and brilliant gymnastics performed.

12-year-old Rio Gawne-Cain, a member of the Hamble based Dynamo School of Gymnastics, travelled to New College, Leicester for the Compulsory 2 qualifier, along with her coaches Kerri Beaven and Emma Beales.

A nerve-wracking competition where a pass mark will allow you a chance at Compulosry 1 and qualification as an Elite gymnast and the chance to compete in the British Championships.

Rio started her competition on Bars producing a solid routine to score 11.35. Taking an unfortunate fall on Beam on her triple flick series, Rio moved to floor producing a massive 11.95 to put herself back in contention. Rio went through her R&C routine showing her improved strength work and flawless flexibility. Moving to Vault Rio needed to produce two powerful Vaults which she successfully competed to score 12.5, achieving an all-around total of 55.15 passing her Compulosry 2 Grade.

Rio will now continue the hard work ahead of her Compulsory 1 Grade in February with the aim to qualify to the 2020 British Championships next April.

Head of Performance Kerri Beaven said of Rio’s performance “Rio has improved massively over the past couple of years to now put herself in a strong position to gain qualification to next years British Championships. We’re excited for her future within the sport”
